I watch a lot of videos online, most of those being videos of other peoples work and a good portion of that is explainer or demo video focused. I need to see what the other folks out there are doing. Jake and I try to save many of our favorites to our explainer video Pinterest board and we’ve got quite a list going there. The problem is with these types of videos is they often start to look the same. It’s an issue in the space and so many of these explainer video companies have a style they use over and over again. It saves them time and money and they’re able to make the client happy. The bad part is for the viewers; these videos start to all look the same and I forget which business the video is for. This was something I made sure to pay attention to from day one of starting LooseKeys; it was important to make sure that every video coming out of LooseKeys was different and personalized for the brand. You’re seeing this more and more as the market for explainer videos grow and different people are working on them.
Some businesses will see an awesome explainer video they like and will ask a production company if they can just copy it. Instead you should give it to the team or freelancer you hire and have them use it for inspiration. Allow them to pull what you liked from this video and make a video that’s just for you. It might be cheaper to copy and recycle the same look over and over but that may not be good for your brand; you’re just going to get lost.
As a creative person I know I have a lot more fun with the videos I’m allowed to flex that creative muscle on and do something different then having to do the same thing over and over again.
