Choose Your Friends Wisely, Don’t Become A Thief

I love cartoons and try to watch them as often as I can. Of course these days I’m watching them for different reasons then I did when I was 10 years old. Today I’m still watching them for entertainment but mostly for the animation style as well as for the underlying metaphors that can be applied to business and life.

One of the recent episodes of Adventure Time I watched was called, The City Of Thieves. This episode was awesome because it had two great lessons. The first being that you’re effected by the friends and colleagues you hang out with. If all your friends are thieves and keep stealing then you’re going to get corrupted and become a thief too. They say you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, so don’t let them all be thieves. Otherwise you might find yourself stealing a pair of sweet red boots.

The second lesson the episode taught is that if you stay true to yourself, you can accomplish anything. Don’t let others tell you that you have to change or sink down to their level to get what you want.

See, cartoons don’t only look awesome they have some great life and business lessons. And since it’s Saturday, grab yourself some coffee and have an Adventure Time marathon.

Forget The Jerks

I’ve had a few clients over the years who every time they emailed or called I would hate responding. I knew I was in for trouble with whatever they needed no matter what small task they might have. I knew the projects would be painful and I was never sure why I put myself through it. After a few of those you learn your lesson to get rid of those types of clients. Life is too short to work and deal with people who are rude or only out for themselves. I have no interest in working with people like that. The best part about having your own business or being a freelancer is that if you’re doing quality work there is a good chance you have clients banging down your door and you can afford to turn down the bad ones. Save yourself the headache and say no to people you don’t like to work with.
