Skip The Swag
I’ve talked about or rather joked about getting swag or schwag for LooseKeys before. Maybe some t-shirts, pint glasses or iPhone cases. But I’ve never bought any of these because I know they are really just a waste of money. None of my clients want a LooseKeys shirt, the only people that would wear one are myself, maybe some friends and the shirts probably wouldn’t be worn often....

1099s
It seems like everyone avoids dealing with taxes until the last minute. Having to go through all that paperwork just dosen’t seem like fun. By law you have to send out 1099s to your contract/non W2 employees by the end of January. But it seems like very few people follow that rule. Over the years I’ve received 1099s as late as March, just days before I was meeting with the accountant...

Etta James
Etta James passed away today at the age of 73. She left behind a legacy of beautiful music. Her version of At Last is probably the most famous. But I wanted to take a moment and share a couple of my favorite Etta James songs.

Make Time To Brainstorm & Problem Solve
Making and finding time to brainstorm and problem solve is hard because they are hours that you really can’t plan for. Sometimes an idea or solution will strike you right away and other times it comes to you after days of hard focus and experimenting. I tend to work on a pretty tight schedule and plan projects with the hope that nothing is going to go wrong. I basically cross my fingers and...

Stuck In A Creative Bubble?
The freedom of working for yourself can be great because you can focus all of your time and effort on just creating. It’s a great feeling when you first go at it, you have all these ideas and concepts you want to explore that had been bouncing around for months or even years with other creative people. But every once in awhile you can find yourself stuck in a creative funk and you have no...

InsightIntell Episode 02 - QR Codes & Augmented...
Welcome to the second episode of InsightIntell. In this episode Case Morton and Brad Chmielewski discuss QR codes and augmented reality. QR codes were incredibly popular in 2011 and it seems that augmented reality is going to be a hot topic in 2012. There are different ways brands have been successful using both QR codes and augmented reality but the issue is still making sure your audience...

Goodbye Traditional Office
That conventional work idea of going to a place and working 9 AM - to - 5 PM seems to be dying and for me it’s been gone for awhile. Being in the creative field, I don’t even recall the last time I called it a day at 5 PM, even when I was working at Daily Planet Productions ltd. But now that I’m working for myself and building my own business I go back and forth on the need for a...

The Game Of Life
I was always a fan of playing the board game Life growing up. But looking back on it and thinking about the game now I can’t help but think that really the game has nothing to do with life… at least my life. Instead the game is really just all luck; it’s all a matter of a spin of the wheel. No where in that game does hard work get you ahead. You can choose if you make more money...

Create Release Repeat
We seem to live in a time where you always need to be doing something great, sharing an amazing photo or creating top notch work. But the pressure of needing to always create new and interesting content can be stressful. If you are creating that rapidly is anyone going to remember the work you created last week or even yesterday? Instead of being worried about how we are being judged today you...
